Delmont

A community full of scenic beauty and a welcoming, friendly community.

Welcome to Delmont

Delmont is a beautiful community home to a rich history. Delmont was officially incorporated in 1833 when it was first named New Salem Borough. It was not until 1967 that residents voted to officially change the borough's name to Delmont. Today, Delmont is a community full of scenic beauty and a welcoming, friendly community. Delmont’s prime location also means that plenty of sources of business and entertainment lie just a short drive from the community’s borders.

Many of the area’s buildings have ties back to much earlier days in the community. Some of these local, historical sites, like Robert Shield’s tannery, are today private homes. Others, like The Central Hotel, now host offices for local businesses. The historical Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church still serves its original function, continuing to hold worship every Sunday morning. These historical sites bring a wonderful sense of character to the Delmont community.

The friendliness of Delmont’s community is evident in the annual events that bring residents together. The Delmont Apple ‘n Arts Festival is an annual craft show with hundreds of art and food vendors selling their locally-made goods. The Apple Hill Playhouse is one of Delmont’s most prized local attractions. The playhouse has been around for more than fifty years and hosts a variety of family-friendly productions throughout the year. The Johnny Appleseed Children's Theatre organizes performances by some of the community’s youngest residents.

There are a number of parks in Delmont that host a variety of recreational opportunities for residents to partake in. Newhouse Park features paths for walking or running, tennis and basketball courts, a deck hockey rink, and both a little league and standard-size baseball fields. Kovalcik Park has an additional baseball field, tennis courts, and a play area. For even more sporting opportunities, there is the Cloverleaf Golf Club and the Center Ice Arena.

Residents of Delmont are served by both the Greensburg Salem School District and the Franklin Regional School District. Franklin Regional District operates three elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. The district is one of the best in the state, with schools that provide excellent academics and extracurricular activities. Greensburg Salem School is home to three elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school.

As a primarily residential area, Delmont is home to houses in a range of styles and sizes. The borough is made up of nice neighborhoods that offer a great living experience to families, retirees, and everyone in between.
