A Remarkable Place
The Nature Reserve at Saint Vincent College is a remarkable place with 50 acres to explore; you will be astonished in every moment you spend here. The barn hosts various events and is such a warm, inviting, and calming environment. You can walk the garden across from the barn, as well as the path that takes you throughout the grounds. Winnie Palmer even has its very own insect hotel, and the Palmer Pond is also a highlight of the property. The barn is open Tuesday through Friday, 10-4. There, you can meet Stella the Rabbit as well as Jasper and Jasmine the Box Turtles. There are also other animals the preserve invites in for shorter stays.
There are workshops and events planned for each season. In winter, they have a Santa Wild Wonder Land for the kids and a Colonial Christmas pop-up workshop for adults. If there is snowfall, then they'll happily loan you a pair of snowshoes free of charge! What a place, right?!
Winnie Palmer Nature Reserve celebrates Earth Day with a Party for the Planet. They host the Greensburg Garden and Civic Center's monarch butterfly release. They have a bee festival, summer camps for kids, adult programs, and field trips, and can even be rented for birthday parties.
The inspirational Winnie Walzer Palmer started this project with the goal of wanting to preserve the land, and her family sure did finish it with touches that would have made her incredibly proud. The build being based on educating the community about nature's importance, has brought her dream to life in a very humble way. Be sure to check it out, whether you have 30 minutes or a few hours, it's good stop to make.
